The task was to re-design the Vito van to accommodate a rear fridge
section for the transportation of perishable foodstuffs.
A Vito van was painted white to
ensure the best possible
scan result. As the van is symmetrical only half is required
to be scanned. The other half is generated by the software
option 'divide / mirror'.
RapidForm2000 software is used to
bring each scan into
a common coordinate system. Each scan is registered, merged
and edited. Here one can see the side of the van as
a polygon shaded shell..
The `create/curve option is used
to draw splines directly
on the polygon mesh (shaded). Extensive options are available
to create, modify, trim and analyse curves.
The curves were then imported to
Alias|Wavefront software
and used as a template to create a new design, based upon
the desired functional and aesthetic objectives.
